Last night, we got a nice light(ning) show in Oslo. I took my little IXUS 65 camera out on the balcony and started recording some video, hoping to capture a flash.
Needless to say, I did :)
I got more than I expected. The lightning struck the neighbour building twice! The built-in microphone on the pocket camera did not manage to capture the sound anywhere near how it was. It was freaking massive. I think it must be one the loudest sounds I have heard, starting extremely high frequency and thundering down into the basement rumble.
There is a strange artifact in the video, where the frame before the lightning shows a an arc appearing in the lower left corner. After having studied this for some time, I think I have to conclude that it is not a lightning striking upwards between my building and the next, but rather a reflection in the camera lense from what happens high up under the clouds, leading to the double strike.
The video shows the first original recording - not manipulated in any way, then shows the same, slowed down by 1:32. Windows Movie Maker mangled the slow-mo sound in a weird way, so please excuse the noise.
